Soaked and Frozen and We Still Lost

I had a unique opportunity to go to a football game with a first-time attendee and she agreed to let me interview her before, during, and after the game. Now to set the scene, we went to the Bears vs. Packers game at Soldier Field and the weather was cold and wet. Spoiler alert: the Bears lost - just kidding you should know the results of the game by now.  I interviewed Barbara Vazquez, who moved to Chicago from Mexico last January. Below are the questions and her responses:

Before the Game:

Kate: Why did you want to come to today's game?

Barbara: First, because I was a Packers fan back home and they are playing the local, Chicago, team. Second, the rivalry between the two teams should make the game exciting.

Kate: What expectations do you have?

Barbara: A close game with a last-second touchdown.

Kate: As you mentioned, this is a major rival game. Who are you cheering on?

Barbara: Chicago!

Half Time Interview:

Kate: What previous sporting events have you attended?

Barbara: In Denver, I attended a basketball game and a hockey game. I also attended a hockey game in Tennessee. Back home in Mexico, I attended soccer games.

Kate: What is the biggest difference you have noticed?

Barbara: I saw the other games, but didn't know the rules. It is a better experience knowing the rules. Also, in the US there is more stuff to entertain the fans. In Mexico, you go to watch the sports.

Post Game Interview:

Kate: What was your favorite part of this experience?

Barbara:The rain!

Kate: Wait, What?!?!?!?!?

Barbara: (laughing) Just kidding, the entertainment parts, such as the team running onto the field with the tunnel and fireworks. Also, the helicopters.

editors note: The game that was attended was the Veteran's weekend game and there was a military helicopter flyover after the national anthem.

Kate: What was by far the biggest surprise of the game?

Barbara: The helicopters and when Chicago got their touchdown.

Kate: Do you plan to go to future games?

Barbara: Yes, but when it is warmer.

Kate: Final question, what is your advice to another first-time attendee?

Barbara: Don't go in winter and don't pick expensive games.

For the record, we picked what should have been an exciting game and would have been amazingly fun, if it was not for the crappy weather. I will admit, I told her that around halftime while sipping hot chocolate trying to stop shivering. However, Barbara was a great sport and shared her advice for other first time attendees.
