During the 2016 baseball season, I was heading to Wrigley to catch a game.
I used public transit to get to the game and was five minutes away from Wrigley on the bus when someone's phone started going off. It was just announced that the game was delayed until further notice due to rain. Social media accounts started confirming it so it was true.
What does one do with an unspecified time delay?
Well, first I did the most logical thing. I got off the bus at the next stop and ran to the closest bar. There, I grabbed a beer and hung out with other fans. Being a bit outside of the main bar strip, I was able to have some room and received speedy service. The rain started slowing so feeling that the rain would be ending soon, I headed to the main bar strip. There I headed into Cubbie Bear. Being right across the street from the main Wrigley entrance, it was packed, however, it gave a close point of entrance for when the start time was announced. It was also a bit more expensive closer to the field. While my adventure was fun, I would make a couple changes.
First, I would have had a plan prior to the game.
Heading out to the game, I knew that the weather was supposed to be crappy. I had packed a poncho knowing the weather could turn bad during the game. However, I did not have the foresight to plan in case of a rain delay. My advice to you is to have a plan. Before you leave, check the weather and have a place in mind to go to in case of bad weather. You can always use the places function on stadiumscene.com and identify a place that fits your needs and personality.
Second, I would have set up notifications via social media or other to get notifications of delay of games.
I was pretty much just relying on others and the news to know when to head over to the game.
Now that you know what I did wrong, you can use this knowledge and make sure to survive a rain delay in style. -KT
