The Raptors started off hot, with both DeMar DeRozan and Jonas Valanciunas dropping 8 points. In addition, DeRozan had 5 assists and Serge Ibaka had 3 blocks. Toronto stuffed the stat sheets during the 1st quarter, which gave them a 7 point lead entering the 2nd quarter. Toronto led 26-19.

Spencer Dinwiddie and Allen Crabbe of the Nets combined for 17 of the team's 25 points in the quarter. With 8:07 seconds left in the half, Toronto's Pascal Siakam performed a chase-down block on Caris Levert. Siakam spiked the layup against the backboard and into the hands of Fred VanVleet. The Raptors led by 1 heading into halftime, the score 45-44.
