The PB&J of Sports

Sports and beer go together like peanut butter and jelly. You can enjoy one without the other, but the combination amplifies the experience.

When I heard on the news today that some bars in Russia are running out of beer due to World Cup fans drinking more than typical Russians, my first thought was: I did not know the LADS were in Russia. Just kidding, I know they could not drink a country dry. Over the past several years, beer consumption has decreased in Russia. For a country known for their drinking, how could that happen? Well, it occurred because Russians are drinking vodka and other spirits. In order to prevent violence and hooliganism, Russia imposed an alcohol ban near the stadium, which limits the strength of the alcohol and varieties available to fans. Taking these two facts into consideration, it is not surprising that a problem occurred. Let’s just hope the UK’s CO2 shortage doesn’t impact Russia and breweries’ abilities to replenish the stocks. I have a feeling sober fans may not be as nice as drunk fans.
