Release Date: 2024-10-03 09:00 2024 Mid Year (Oops) Recap ShowWe wanted to do at least two shows a year with an annual update in January and a mid-year review in July. Well, it is October and we slacked hard on the mid-year review, but we're doing it now! Kate Thompson returns to the show for the first time since early 2022. We learn what's been going on with her and an update after her 2022 car accident and major injury to her foot and ankle. On the social media front, we talk about the current state of Twitter/X and how after the major changes (paid blue check marks, controversy, etc.) it went from being our most reliable source of web traffic to our least reliable. The important lesson is to diversify your social media strategy because you never know when a platform may collapse, change policies, or get banned (like TikTok may in 2025). We made a big announcement regarding our project for next year. Stadium Scene has had great success live streaming iRacing Esports events that we are full-on developing our own Esports sanctioning body/league. We'll be finishing up development on a Rocket League series featuring a regular season and playoff format in early 2025. Outside of that, it's general shenanigans and catch-up since this is the first time the three of us have been together on a show since Ralph joined the organization. Thank you again for your ongoing support of Stadium Scene and we look forward to serving you with new content for the rest of 2024 and beyond! Release Date: 2023-12-31 15:00 2024 NYE State of the Site with D.J. and RalphIt's been well over a year since the last episode of Stadium Scene's Main Event. In this special edition we talk about what's been up, officially welcome our long-time friend Ralph Schudel to the team, and go over the direction of Stadium Scene in 2024 and beyond. Initially, we talked about 2023 and how the law known as "Section 230" and the formal end of the COVID-19 pandemic shifted our strategy. Had the US Supreme Court overturned Section 230, it likely would have resulted in us having to shut down. We go into why. The big changes for 2024 include: - No longer taking on new blog partners (our current blog partners will be supported as long as they continue to run their blogs) - Rebranding of our podcast section to Stadium Scene Radio which includes a plan to introduce live radio in late 2024 - Continued growth of the Stadium Scene TV channel with sports talk shows, Wednesday Night Dash, and a new IndyCar-themed iRacing league that will debut in February as long as the iRacing/IndyCar licensing issues are resolved by then. In part two of the episode, Ralph and D.J. play True/False with sports stories that could happen in 2024. Does Messi "slow down", do the Las Vegas Aces repeat as WNBA champions, and much more! Thank you again for your ongoing support of Stadium Scene and we look forward to serving you with new content in 2024! Release Date: 2022-09-21 07:00 Ten Minutes With... Joshua & Trevor From The Two Pointers PodcastYes indeed, we still record this show! Kate had a scheduling conflict, but D.J. runs the show (long as usual when he is by himself) and is joined by Joshua Gupton and Trevor Everette of The Two Pointers Podcast! The Two Pointers Podcast is the latest member of the Stadium Scene Network and they have easily a top five epic story about how the two of them met dating back to elementary school. It's very clear their love for all things college and pro basketball led to the creation and the success of this show, which is about to reach the 100-episode milestone. We talk about how they were a "Pandemic Podcast", although they started much later than the usual podcasts, some early luck with the pilot episode that is the exception to the rule, and how they kept things going after most of the podcasts created at the start of the pandemic shut down and were never heard from again. We close out the show talking about a really good piece of advice that they wish they knew when they were starting their show. Release Date: 2021-08-25 04:00 Play x Play - Discussing "Lucky Bastard" by Joe BuckIn our next episode of "Play x Play," Kate and D.J. discuss "Lucky Bastard" by Joe Buck. Pretty much all of us have seen Joe Buck call either an NFL or MLB game for FOX at some point in the last 30 years and he is often one of the more criticized announcers of our generation. That being said, we discuss the book and overall thought it was very open, honest, and entertaining to the point that when it was released in 2016, several people had a change of heart about him. In the episode, we go over some of our favorite chapters of the book, comment on his footnotes, his relationship with his famous father, Jack Buck, how a cheap plastic batting helmet may have saved his life, and talk about his unusual family situation growing up. For September, we will be reading "It's Game Time Folks - The Quest for 30" by our good friend Mark Darden. Be sure to check out both books on Amazon by clicking the links below. We even feature the clip where friend of the show and former Ravens safety, Bernard Pollard talks about being on the field and his reaction to the lights shutting off during the game. Once a month, Kate and D.J. will be discussing a book on the topic of sports or journalism. This was NOT a paid review or promotion by the author or publisher of the book. A list is compiled by Kate and D.J. and the book each month is selected at random. For our first episode, "Talking to GOATs" by Jim Gray is discussed. He is a reporter who just seemed to be at the right place at the right time for several major sports events over the last 30+ years. We talk Tyson vs Holyfield II (The ear bite fight), Lebron James' "The Decision", Jim's infamous interview with Pete Rose, discovering a very young Tiger Woods, his friendships and relationships he's built over his career and a wonderful Masters story about and tribute to his late father. Release Date: 2021-07-21 04:00 The Best of What Got Cut From Episode 100So we said last week when we released episode 100 that it was difficult to edit because there was just so much good material and we wanted to keep the show around the one-hour mark. We couldn't let all this good material go to waste, so episode 101 is the best of what got cut from episode 100! Note that some of these segments appeared in episode 100, but we have the full unedited segment. The first segment is D.J. going on about Jeppson's Malört, first with Kate and then second with guests Adam Corsair and Kevin Pettit. Learn about this infamous Chicago drink and why some people call it the "World's Worst Liquor". In our next segment, we return to the interview with Ralph Schudel and play a clip from before we actually started the segment. It turns out to be a lot of bad impressions (Tom Brokaw, Dick Vitale and his Hooters Commercial (https://youtu.be/RSdyD-1xdk0), Gheorghe Muresan and his Snickers cologne commercial (https://youtu.be/CuU9DjeLESY), and former Cavalier/Laker Timofey Mozgov with the backward jersey (https://youtu.be/mWS9OaIXH4E). Next, we have a quick clip of Kate (15:06) talking about how she signed up for Red Bull Flugtag when she was 13 and the interesting response she got from the company... Finally, we have a nice discussion with Adam Corsair and Kevin Pettit about giving up on podcasts, the surprisingly low number of episodes it takes to be in the "top 1%" of most episodes released, taking criticism online for takes, handling negative reviews....and then Canadian Geese? Release Date: 2021-07-14 04:00 Stadium Scene's Main Event 100th Episode SpectacularIt's hard to believe when we started our show as a podcast in February of 2017 that we would ever reach 100 episodes. In fact, as of 2020, we only had 35. Add 65 more shows between March of 2020 and today and here we are with milestone episode 100! We decided the only appropriate way to celebrate 100 episodes is to talk about our previous 99 episodes, take a shot of Malört and visit with our first partners that helped us build this site into something special. First, we sit down with our old friend Ralph Schudel (ralphschudel.com) and talk about how we met back after the #SaveTheCrew movement started. It's really incredible how in just four years the Columbus Crew went from being moved to Austin to an expansion franchise was added to Austin, new ownership comes in, and Lower.com Field just recently opened in downtown Columbus, Ohio. In our next segment, we talk about our earliest shows, shifting our show concept over to being more interview-based, and our first guests who may not be household names, but have amazing stories to share. We actually had our first famous guests with Michelle McMahon from Big Ten Network and Super Bowl Champion Bernard Pollard stopping by and visiting the show. The next throw to segment is with our friend Dave Knittel. Dave runs the popular "The Soccer Tavern" channel on YouTube discussing the history and teams of soccer. Dave also co-hosted the "Bros Talking Soccer" podcast with his brothers and famously hosted a daily episode after each day of action in the 2018 Men's and 2019 Women's World Cups. Next up, we talk about how 2020 and the pandemic changed the trajectory of this show, where we talked with legendary Cubs radio broadcaster Pat Hughes, Andrew Dymburt of ABC News Now, and how watching a rerun of ABC's Wipeout at 11pm on a Saturday night inspired D.J. to take a chance and reach out to John Anderson at ESPN and resulted in an incredibly fun interview. In our final throw to segment, we interview our two active longest partners Kevin Pettit (Loud Americans Discussing Soccer Podcast) and Adam Corsair (South of the 6ix, Jaybird Watching Podcast) about D.J. randomly reaching out to them when the site first started about this crazy idea. Both guests were fairly new at their shows and took a chance to partner with us. If it wasn't for them, this concept would have failed after six months. We can't say thank you enough to the two of them for helping get us on our feet. Finally, we close out the show talking about our new Book Club segment and perhaps we've accidentally created a new segment. The discussion with Kevin and Adam about dealing with criticism, bad reviews, and nasty emails which make you want to quit were too good to cut, so we're going to be releasing all of that in next week's episode! Thank you again to everyone who has made StadiumScene.TV a success so far. We cannot thank you enough. Here's to the next 100 episodes not taking four years! If you would like to see the video of this episode, don't wait... go subscribe to our YouTube channel and never miss an episode! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/stadiumscenetv/message Play Episode |

In part two of the episode, we discuss how the recruiting scandal involving Coach Harrick resulted in Steve being promoted to Interim Head Coach, the tough start, and the support from Coach John Wooden ultimately resulting in the Interim tag being removed later in his first season. Release Date: 2021-06-30 04:00 An Interview With... Steve Lavin - Part 1We're extremely excited to have Fox Sports Men's College Basketball Analyst, CBS Sports (during March Madness), and former Men's basketball head coach of UCLA and St John's Steve Lavin join us today in the first of a two-part episode. We kick off the episode talking about playing basketball in high school and how before the era of YouTube, cell phone cameras, and a million sports networks how you would get exposure with college scouts. Next, we talk about his transition into the coaching world and how he wrote letters to legendary coaches like Bob Knight, Gene Keady, and Jerry Tarkanian for advice on how to break into the ranks of coaching. We pick up the competitive swimming discussion with Erik Richardson, Assistant Coach for Men's and Women's Swimming at Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan. In this week's episode, we talk about Tokyo 2020 still being Tokyo 2020 in 2021, why epic moments in Olympic swimming like Michael Phelps eight gold medals in the 2008 Bejing games. Erik also worked at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and has seen many of these swimmers up close and personal during training and heard some of the legendary coaches like Bob Bowman coach his swimmers while being paid on the job. We also get into a discussion about how it's funny that lifeguards are on duty for Olympic swimmers practicing and competing, but water safety is a very serious issue with thousands of people drowning or nearly drowning every year. Living in the south where almost everyone has a pool it's very easy for kids to sneak away and accidentally fall in or have a medical emergency in the pool, so make sure you and your kids take appropriate swimming lessons and have tarps and gates in place so drowning accidents do not occur. In our first episode back, we have taken on the role of hybrid talk show and documentary by featuring a StadiumScene.TV partner helping us tell a story about a memorable or controversial experience where they have a personal experience with that story. In our first episode back, we have our old friend and now frequent pilot regular, Ralph Schudel of ralphschudel.com talk to us about growing up in northeast Ohio and experiencing the Cleveland Browns moving to Baltimore. We talk to Phil about his beginnings in Miami and his love for the game watching his local Ft Lauderdale Strikers play in the NASL and learning about a player named Ray Hudson, who like most of us know went on to be his long time broadcast partner calling games in Spain (La Liga), France (Ligue 1). Phil talks about the growth of soccer and how the creation of the MLS helped him reach the national television stage and how while broadcasting with the MLS he met up with Ray Hudson and tried to get him to join the booth. We move on and talk about what are the next steps that need to be taken in the USA to take the game to the next level (make MLS more of a global force, USMNT competing deep into World Cups). D.J. also shares a story of an amusing conversation young DC United Assistant in the mid-90s at a US Open Cup game who has later become quite the head coach himself. Phil also talks about the "soccer vs football" debate and has a unique perspective on it and closes up the show talking about how in the last few years has gotten started building up his own voice-over company, VoiceGoals, and the challenges associated with going into business yourself. Author, Emily WilliamsKate and D.J. sit down with author, Emily Williams as they discuss her new book, Lady-Thletes (Available at Amazon and on Kindle/Kindle UNLIMITED). The book is targeted at pre-teen and teenage girls in sports and the issues they run into as athletes and translates them to life lessons. This book is also a good read for males looking to better understand their female peers and the experiences they are going through during these critical development years. Release Date: 2020-09-23 04:00 Ten Minutes With... The Hardcourt Hunnies PodcastToday Kate and D.J. are joined with Jade, Shea, and TJ from the Hardcourt Hunnies podcast, and a record-breaking episode it is! After losing a host and working as just Jade and TJ working together, Shea joined a few months ago and just clicked! This show takes the stereotypical "gender assignments" and flips them with the male role taking on the moderator and the female role doing the debate/discussion. The show goes off on a tangent discussing favorite teams when TJ suggests Devin Booker will be coming to Minneapolis and D.J. throws shade at that prediction. Discussion about Ernie Johnson, Shaq vs Chuck. D.J. talks about his experience visiting OKC, the group's love for Steven Adams, the importance of prep, taking notes, and following the notes (we're talking to you, Kate!), and the importance of preparing for "oops" moments if you have audio issues. Shea surprises everyone with the fact she used to serve Jonah Hill when she worked at a coffee shop in New York. Finally, we go through NBA Champions predictions. Note - This episode was recorded a few weeks so oops on the predictions! Release Date: 2020-09-16 04:00 John Anderson - ESPN SportsCenter and ABC's WipeoutThis episode was a really exciting get for us as we are both big fans of John on SportsCenter and the former ABC show Wipeout! This episode is PACKED with a lot of good material! First, we get into talking about him growing up in Green Bay, and when he decided he wanted to go into Journalism. Why Mizzou was his choice for school and how he was able to start his career working in TV moving from Columbia to Tulsa to Phoenix, and ultimately to Bristol where he has been since 1999. John tells the story about how he almost didn't end up at ESPN and instead was prepared to take an offer from a rival national sports channel. We get into the stories behind the breaking news of being on set covering the tragic death of former Marlins Pitcher Jose Fernandez and golf legend Arnold Palmer on the same night. We move on to a lighter topic discussing the classic "This is SportsCenter" ad campaign including some stories behind the Abby Wambach and Georges St Pierre commercials. Of course, we couldn't end the show without talking about ABC's Wipeout and the story behind how he was cast on the show, the production schedule, what's John Henson like when the camera isn't rolling, the struggle of writing jokes and getting them approved by the network censors, and a story about how a contestant injury may have actually saved the contestant's life. Finally, with the reports that TBS is eventually going to bring back Wipeout, will John and John be back hosting? The likely answer is in the episode! We move on and talk about the challenges of hosting SportsCenter during the pandemic when there were no live sports. As we finish up the show, Kate asks her "Five Fun Fast Facts" and John talks about how he has resisted joining social media and his reasons for doing so. We really want to thank John for taking the time to sit with us. We originally asked him for only a half-hour of his time and he gave us well over an hour! Be sure to check him out on SportsCenter.
